The enormous man was the Mughal Emperor of Shah Jahan; this man was deeply in love with his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Before marriage with Shah Jahan, her name was Arjumand Banu Begum. She was a Muslim Persian princess.

Shah Jahan was the grandson of great Akbar and son of great Mughal emperor Jehangir. When he was only 14 years old, he met Mumtaz and when he first saw her he totally fell in love with her. After five years in 1612, Shah Jahan and Mumtaz got married.

Taj Mahal is one of the inseparable companions of great Shah Jahan. Unfortunately, Mumtaz died in the year 1631, 17 June while she was giving birth to her 14th child.

Taj Mahal is the memory of Shah Jahan’s beloved wife that he builds a glorious monument as an honor to her. The construction of Taj Mahal has been started in the year 1631.

Stonecutters, masons, carvers, in layers, calligraphers, Painters, other artisans, and dome builders were requisitioned from all over India. And it took 22 years to complete it along with services of 1,000 elephants and 22,000 laborers.

The monument was built with white marbles which are brought from the different regions of India and including central Asia. After all, this expenditure of approximately 32 to 35 million for making great Taj Mahal was finally terminated in 1653.

After the completion of the Taj Mahal as said:” Shah Jahan cut the hands of the laborers and all artists because he doesn’t want to see the same or similar monument in all over the world”.

Visit timing- 

Closed on Friday. From sunrise to sunset, if there are some night tours they are permitted between 8:30 PM to 12:30 AM. But the limited duration for night tours is only 30 minutes.

Entry fees-

  • In these days, the foreign people charged only Rs 1100 and an optional fee of Rs INR 200 is charged for exploring the main mausoleum.
  • For Indians, the charge is INR 50 ( Additional INR 200 to see the main mausoleum)
  • SAARC and BIMSTEC –  INR 540 (RS 200 – additional charge to see the main mausoleum)
  • Children Below Age 15 – Free
  • For both domestic and foreign tourists, no entry fee is charged for children below the age of 15.
  • The entry tickets for night viewing can be bought 24 hours in advance.
